Welcome — step in, read and listen. Piara Singh Kudowal is a renowned and versatile Punjabi writer and poet: author of literary research papers, poems and ghazals — and the unmistakable voice behind every recording of his own verse.
This website was created not simply to preserve the writings of Piara Singh Kudowal, but to keep his Punjabi literary voice alive — across generations, borders and time.
Writing was never his full-time profession. It was a lifelong devotion pursued alongside a working life, shaped in evenings, weekends and quiet hours. His literary analysis reflects the same discipline: books read closely, articles studied thoroughly, ideas examined deeply, and every conclusion carefully considered before it was written. Yet his writing remains simple, clear and rooted in plain language — making even serious literary ideas accessible to the everyday reader.
More than an archive, this is a living classroom, a bridge between Punjab and the Punjabi diaspora, and an open literary inheritance — preserving a lifetime given to Punjabi language and literature for those who come next.

A Life in Verse
Piara Singh Kudowal
Piara Singh Kudowal is a renowned Punjabi author and poet who carries the village of Kudowal with him wherever he reads. His verse moves between the classical forms — ghazal, poetry, shayri — and a plain, modern voice that speaks of migration, labour, love, faith, and the strange new world of machines that try to write poems of their own.
War is one of his enduring subjects. He writes about its pain without flags or slogans — the soldier who does not come home, the mother counting days at the door, villages emptied of their young, and the long silence that settles over a family once the news arrives. In his hands a war poem is not about victory; it is about who is left to carry the loss.
He writes in Gurmukhi, and he writes for the ear. A poem of his is not complete on paper — it is completed in the air, when the voice lifts it: from the podium of the World Punjabi Conference, from a community stage that has waited all evening for him, from a living room where the tea has long gone cold and no one has dared to notice.
He is, above all, an orator. His voice carries — deep, unhurried, and trained by years of stages — and it needs no microphone to reach the last row.
